Unicorn Party Closure
Read up on the full details pertaining to the DAO’s decision regarding the continued funding for Unicorn Party
Hello, Unifam,
Over the past few months, the community had extensive discussions about the Unicorn Party project and other similar third-party initiatives. Today, we regret to announce that, following a recent council vote, the Unicorn Party project will be officially closed and shelved for the time being.
When we launched Unicorn Party, we held the goal of bridging the gap between real-money gaming and web3 gaming, with the vision of making Crypto Unicorns an inclusive IP, appealing to a broad spectrum of gamers.
However, as the web3 landscape continues to evolve, it’s crucial to recognize that market conditions today differ significantly from those when our DAO initially voted to invest in this venture. Despite our initial enthusiasm and the innovative thesis we aimed to test, the current environment necessitates a reassessment of our strategy.
On July 22, 2024, the Crypto Unicorns governance council convened to review the project's status. After a thorough evaluation, the council voted unanimously (11-0) to cease funding for the Unicorn Party project.
Effective July 2024, funding for the Unicorn Party project will end, and Team Surf will announce the official closure of the associated games. The assets related to the Unicorn Party, such as Mob Run and Bumpercorns, will be transferred to the CU DAO, represented by the Laguna Games team. While these assets will be temporarily shelved, they remain the property of the CU DAO and may be revisited for future development if the DAO identifies a suitable partner or finds itself in a stronger position to support the project.
We anticipate that the Team Surf will also provide further details about the service closure and timeline shortly. In the meantime, we advise against depositing new assets into the games to ensure a smooth transition. All withdrawals for accounts in good standing will be processed as usual.
This decision represents an important moment in our DAO’s journey. As we continue to navigate the dark forest, we expect to learn and adapt to the evolving landscape. We appreciate your continued support as we move forward.
Thank you.
