Performance Updates
For this update, we’re continuing the game’s ongoing transition from being a farm simulation to a build-and-battle game. This release lays down a strong groundwork for our upcoming releases, Tribes and Gemworks, which will unlock more collaborative play in the core game and vertical progression for individual Unicorns.
Several of the changes included in this update are based on feedback we have gathered from the community. After this update is released, we will continue to actively listen to the community’s response to further fine-tune land gameplay.
Here are our main goals for this update:
To reduce the time and effort it takes for players to maintain their core game operations. We aim to reduce the time spent on activities like farming and gathering. This change will free up more time for players to engage in strategic and active gameplay elements.
To enhance land ownership benefits. We're boosting the benefits of owning land, especially in higher quantities and of better quality, to reinforce its value.
To align with the upcoming roadmap features. The changes are designed to create a strong foundation for upcoming features like Tribes and Gems, including a significant use for high-tier items.
Elevate the new player experience. Our goal is to design a gameplay loop that smooths the path for both new and existing players. This includes removing barriers that slow down unicorn population growth.
Land Gameplay 2.0 (Make Farming Great Again)
We have heard the community’s feedback on Land Gameplay feeling too tedious. In this update, we are taking the first of many steps to give players more control over their strategy with less repetitive tasks.
Farming
Seeds and Seedbags
We’re decreasing the amount of time and effort players need to tend to their farms by changing the mechanics of Seedbags and Seeds. With Seedbags, you now only have to check your farms every three days instead of three times a day. The baseline yield for Seedbags has been increased to match the extension of its timer duration. Crafting Seedbags has also been made quicker and more cost-effective, making them the optimal choice for planting and harvesting.
Alternatively, you can use regular Seeds to get Berries for shorter, five-minute timers if you immediately need them.
NOTE: Bonuses for individual farm plots now only apply to Seedbags that produce berries.
Seedbags
Baseline yield is increased to 100-150 for Plain and Class Seedbags, and 50-125 for Material Seedbags.
Assigning a Unicorn can increase this!
Baseline timer is increased from 1 day to 3 days.
Seedbag crafting time is decreased to 30 minutes.
Seedbags are now available on the Rainbow Marketplace.
Seeds
Yield has been decreased to 1-2 Berries without a Unicorn and 1-10 Berries with a matching Unicorn.
Baseline timer has been decreased from 8 hours to 5 minutes.
Seeds are removed from the Rainbow Marketplace. Instead, players can exchange RBW for Class Giftboxes which gives Seeds as a reward. (Read more: Exchange RBW for Class Giftboxes, Berries, and Tier I Generic Materials through Quests).
Seeds are also still available through Unicorn Poop and can now get them in larger quantities (Read more: Unicorn Poop) as well as through gathering.
Gathering
We’re also decreasing the time and effort it takes to gather:
The gathering timer now gets longer as the level of a gathering cart increases. The timer duration starts at 1 hour at Level 1 and can go longer up to 3 days starting at Level 4.
The UNIM jackpot amounts are increased by 1x to 3x based on the Gathering Cart level.
Seed rewards are increased by 1x to 3x based on the Gathering Cart level.
Class Berry cost for better gathering is increased from 50 to 150.
Unicorn Poop
With the new schedule for Gathering, we have reworked Unicorn Poop to be the players’ reliable daily seed supplier:
The timer for Unicorn Poop is increased from 6 hours to 24 hours.
Unicorn Poop now gives 10-30 Seeds.
Nursery
Players don’t need to wait anymore to grow their Unicorn family because we reduced the time it takes for players to breed and evolve from 24 hours to 36 seconds. As long as you have the resources to breed and evolve, you can do it now much quicker.
Also, with Twilight Tactics and the upcoming launch of Glue Factory, there are already measures in place to keep the Unicorn population in check.
Quests
Quests are overhauled to be aligned with the upcoming release of Tribes and Gemworks and community feedback:
The number of available quests on the Questboard is decreased for a cleaner, more focused interface:
The number of daily quests available is decreased to 1.
The number of weekly quests available is decreased to 1-3.
The cost and value across quests have been tuned to deliver a more uniform experience.
Note: RBW Rewards values for the tables above are based on Level 1 Questboards on Common Land. RBW Rewards values increase depending on Questboard Level and Land Type.
Completing individual quests will reward players with RBW that scales with the Questboard’s level, as well as a Class Giftbox:
Class Giftboxes are tailored to the class of the completed quest.
Class Giftboxes give Seeds, Berries, Tier I-III Class items, and a random Class Collection item.
Collection System
We also aim to add more depth and value to the questing experience by making every quest meaningful through the Collections System. As previously mentioned, one of the rewards for completing an individual quest is a Class Giftbox, which gives a random Class Collection item as one of its rewards. As you keep completing quests, you will also keep gathering Class Collection items. Once you have all of the items needed to complete a collection, you can turn them in for rewards. For example, if you turn in 50 Omnom Collection Items, you will receive 250 RBW, one Tier VI Hatching, and one Tier VI Evolution Booster.
The Collection System has two tiers: Common and Rare. The rewards given for completing a Common Collection are geared toward players who are in the process of starting and expanding their core game operations hence the rewards will consist of items needed to upgrade their buildings and stock up on needed resources for Tribes and Gemworks.
Meanwhile, the rewards given for completing a Rare collection are geared toward players who are near maximizing or have already maximized their buildings. The rewards for this will be focused on strengthening their unicorn population with RBW tokens and boosters.
To support this new feature as well as the launch of Land Gameplay 2.0, we are launching a Collections Leaderboard (Read more: Collections Leaderboard and Two New 1:1 Unicorns).
To learn more about how the Collection System works, read our guide.
Rare and Mythic Land Quests
Now the Common, Rare, and Mythic Quests on Questboards will match the rarity of the Land being used.
Common Lands will have Common Class Quests.
Rare Lands will have Rare Class Quests.
Mythic Lands will have Mythic Class Quests.
The rewards for Class Quests scale with rarity; the rarer the quest, the higher the rewards. The same amount of class items given out will be the same for reach rarity; however, each tier will grant more RBW tokens in rewards.
Exchange RBW for Class Giftboxes, Berries, and Tier I Generic Materials through Quests
Players can now exchange RBW for Class Giftboxes, Berries, and Tier I Generic Materials through exchange quests in Global Events rather than through the Rainbow Marketplace. These quests are permanently available.
Crafting
The crafting time on items that are needed in Daily and Weekly Quests has been adjusted to help players quickly obtain the items that they need:
Tier I Class Items: 15 minutes
Tier II Class and Generic Items: 1 hour
The crafting time for the following items remains the same:
Boosters
Tier III items are no longer available in the Workshop. Instead, they’ll be accessible through the Rainbow Marketplace and by completing Common Collections.
Tier III items will play a crucial role in the coming 3.1 release that will have Tribes gameplay. It might be worth hanging on to some of these items for consumption in the near future and securing a head start for Tribes & Gemworks.
Rainbow Marketplace
Seeds, Berries, Tier I-II Generic Items, Tier I Class Items, and Tier I-III Boosters are removed.
This change adds depth to the game for all players by elevating the level of engagement required for resource extraction.
It also enables us to help new players out further by buffing the starting inventory and the new player quest (Read more: New Player Experience Adjustments).
Removing boosters in particular allows us to give more Boosters out as prizes and future leaderboard rewards.
The following items are now available on the Rainbow Marketplace.
Tier III Generic and Class Items
Seedbags
Collections Leaderboard and Two New 1:1 Unicorns
To support the release of Land Gameplay 2.0, we are launching a Collections Leaderboard where players earn points for completing collection quests. The Collections Leaderboard consists of two milestone events and will run from December 2023 to February 2024.
Leaderboard Points
Each time a player completes a collection, they will receive a certain amount of points. The higher the tier of collection, the more leaderboard points a player will receive:
Common collection (all classes): 5 points.
Rare collection (all classes): 25 points.
Milestone Events
The Collections Leaderboard runs for two months and consists of two milestone events. While the leaderboard will provide players with points throughout the whole event, only points earned during the current milestone will be rewarded. For example, it is the second milestone and a player has 3000 points total. Only 1000 out of the 3000 total points were earned during the second milestone. Therefore, only 1000 points are attributed to the second milestone.
Collections Leaderboard
Start Time: December 12th, 2023 00:00 UTC
End Time: February 15th, 2023 00:00 UTC
Milestone 1
Start Time: December 12th, 2023 00:00 UTC
End Time: January 15th, 2023 00:00 UTC
Milestone 2
Start Time: January 15th, 2023 00:01 UTC
End Time: February 15th, 2023 00:00 UTC
Rewards
Leaderboard Rewards
Two new 1:1 Unicorns, RBW, and UNIM are up for grabs as rewards for the Collections Leaderboard. One of the new 1:1 Unicorns will be awarded to the Top 1 of the Collections Leaderboard, while the other new 1:1 Unicorn will be raffled off to the Top 100 of the Leaderboard.
Milestone Rewards
The more points you accumulate, the more lootboxes you get, up to 5 Winter Lootboxes.
Holiday Event Quests and Joust Tournaments
We’re immersing the Unicorn Multiverse in the holiday spirit with three exclusive event quests and three limited-time joust tournaments, all themed for the season!
Holiday Event Quests
We will be running Global Events with a holiday twist where both beginner and OG players can receive RBW, Class Giftboxes, and Tier VI Boosters as rewards for completion. The holiday event quests have two parts: the repeatable quests that give the event quest items and the chain quest where players can turn in the event quest items for rewards.
Holiday Happenings (December 12 - 26, 2023)
Snuggle up and get cozy! For the repeatable quest, players can turn in the required quest items in exchange for Hot Chocolate, and for the chain quest, players can exchange their Hot Chocolate for rewards.
12 Days of Cornmas (December 13 - 30, 2023)
We’re getting fully into the season of giving! For the repeatable quest, players can turn in the required quest items in exchange for Golden Buckle, and for the chain quest, players can exchange their Golden Buckle for rewards.
New Years Extravaganza (December 26, 2023 - January 13, 2024)
Ring in the New Year! For the repeatable quest, players can turn in the required quest items in exchange for Fireworks, and for the chain quest chain, players can exchange their Fireworks for rewards.
Limited-Time Joust Tournaments
The arenas are ready for the best of the best—limited-time tournaments for ELO groupings are back! The special Joust events will be one day per week and follow as an addendum to the regular Jousting schedule, specifically on December 17th, 24th, and 31st! Any player can participate as long as they have a unicorn that possesses the required amount of Elo.
The limited-time Jousts will have higher entry fees, but higher prizes to match!
Mark your calendars! Here are the following dates for each limited-time Joust tournament:
Holiday Happenings: December 17, 2023 UTC
12 Days of Cornmas: December 26, 2023 UTC
New Years Extravaganza: January 2, 2023 UTC
Jousting Updates
Balance Changes
Jousting will have a tuning update aimed to help create more parity in the top ranks of Jousting. This change will slightly reduce the role that Intelligence plays in the Jousting formula. We expect to see Omnom and Cloud Unicorns perform a little better. Stars are likely to still have a strong presence.
This change was done mostly through tuning (changes to numbers within existing formulas, as opposed to changing formulas directly) and is not a full overhaul. Over the next few months, we will be releasing more regular tuning updates in preparation for a larger overhaul to Jousting that will come in early 2024.
Entry Fee Costs
Existing Joust tournaments will have a small increase in UNIM entry fees, due to the Land Gameplay 2.0 Meta Shift and increasing RBW price!
Seeds and Berries as Giftbox Rewards
Seeds and Berries are added as rewards on Jousting Giftboxes, with Berries being a guaranteed reward on every Giftbox claim.
New Player Experience Adjustments
We’re continuing to improve the new player experience and here are the following changes that we’ve made:
New Player Quests
For the new player quests, players now have to exchange their Berries and Tier 1 Crafting Items for UNIM and rarer items. Now that these items have been removed from the Rainbow Marketplace, we can be more generous with helping new players expedite their progression.
The quest path has also been redesigned to guide new players up to Land Level 4 and introduce them to the Collections System. Achieving mastery of the collections system provides new players with a straightforward path to upgrade their Buildings to Level 10 via Common Collections.
Increased Starting Inventory
New players will now receive plenty of seeds and berries to jumpstart their farming, crafting, and unicorn-nurturing adventures to allow for a sustained first-time play session and to increase their unicorn population more quickly.
New Building Upgrade Requirements
Starting from Level 4, building upgrades will now require Tier III Generic and Class items.
Battle Pass
The Battle Pass is back with updated rewards. Existing Jousting vouchers can be used for this iteration of Battle Pass. This season of the Battle Pass will remain active until Tribes are released.
Adjusted Shadowcorn Attack Stat Threshold
The stats threshold that needs to be met to successfully fend off a Shadowcorn attack on Farm Plots and Gathering Carts has been adjusted to reflect the result of the first-ever season of Twilight Tactics.
Restored Mailbox Functionality
We’ve restored the mailbox functionality to allow us to send global messages for each holiday that contain rewards.
Various performance improvements to help first-time experience and load times in general.
